Hughton delighted with youngsters
2010-08-26 11:55:26
Newcastle Manager Chris Hughton Newcastle manager Chris Hughton named an entirely different starting line-up from the one which had beaten Aston Villa 6-0 on Saturday, with Shola Ameobi captaining a side which featured youngsters James Tavernier, Tamas Kadar, Shane Ferguson, Ryan Donaldson and Kazenga LuaLua.

Hughton was delighted with the youngsters' contribution as his team secured their place in the third round.

"It was the tough game that we thought it would be,' Hughton said. "You know with a young side that there are some risks that go with that, but we had enough confidence in the lads to put out the team we did, and certainly it was justified with the result.

"Coming to a famous place here, you know they are going to be competitive, you know they will desperately want to win and you could see the atmosphere. It's nice for these lads to be involved in that type of game and that type of atmosphere, where they knew it meant so much. It is a nice feeling that these are going through to the next round.'

Accrington manager John Coleman felt his players would benefit from the experience of competing against a top-flight team.

"We'll learn our lessons from the mistakes we made and take comfort from the fact we made chances against a good side,' he said.
