Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan believes if the Magpies repeat Monday night's second-half performance against Birmingham City in future matches, they will avoid relegation.

'On chances second half you might think we might have gone on to win it but Maik Taylor's made a great save from Michael Owen, and then Michael stuck one in,' Keegan said.

'First half, we weren't good enough but we've stuck at it and at times we haven't done that.

'There were some really good performances in Newcastle shirts tonight. I thought Geremi was outstanding and Butty (Nicky Butt) and Joey Barton in midfield. They gave us a bit of an engine room.

'They all put in a shift and if they keep doing that we'll be all right.'

The 1-1 draw extended Newcastle's winless run under Keegan to nine matches, but the former England boss is confident a victory is in sight.

'We know we've got a win in us and our next game's against Fulham at home so maybe that's when it'll be,' he added.
