Premier League clubs have submitted their 25-man squad lists and, whether they like it or not, that is their lot until the January transfer window.
Under new rules, each squad needs to have at least eight home-grown players in it and a player qualifies for this category if he has spent 36 months or more with a club associated with the English or Welsh FA before his 21st birthday, or the end of the season during which he turns 21.
Any number of Under-21 players of any nationality can be named in addition to the 25.
Newcastle include transfer-listed defender Stephen Taylor, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, in their 23-man squad.
Goalkeeper Fraser Forster is named even though he is on loan at Celtic, as teams are required to include three goalkeepers.
